About Green Flash

Green Flash is a research voyage, by sailboat, to discover the stories of people connected to the waters of our planet in the face of a changing climate. Abigail Burt and Tom Dickson are setting out with the story gathering sculpture Atom #1 on board, to listen to the stories of marine conservationists, fishermen, climate refugees, and many more.

As the bronze sculpture passes from hand to hand, it will bare the traces of each person who holds it, acting as a ceremonious object of hope and truth. Person by person, sail by sail, the project will reveal the reality of how we are all connected to the seas.

Sometimes when the sun sets over the sea, a green flash can be glimpsed for a split second. It is said to bring good fortune to a sailor. Sometimes, in the vast ocean of climate concern, we can feel like there is no hope for the future. Green Flash is an expedition to find the hope on the horizon. We are setting out to reveal the complex picture, which in turn may show where the best solutions and routes of action lie.
